The Mt. Pleasant Police Department has identified two men who were arrested Thursday after reportedly burglarizing a home and leading police on a chase that resulted in the closure of Mathis Ferry Road.

Authorities were called to a home on Carriage Lane Thursday by the resident who said he arrived home to find two men in his living room. The man told police that the two men immediately fled out the back door of the home and were running toward Mathis Ferry Road.

Police say they spotted the suspects, later identified as 21-year-old Wesley Vanderhorst and 26-year-old Quinton Manigault, leaving the neighborhood in a vehicle at a high rate of speed.

After refusing to stop, the vehicle, driven by Manigault, crashed into a roundabout at Hospital Drive along Mathis Ferry Road. The duo then reportedly fled the scene, but were quickly captured near South Hampton Apartments.

The area where the accident occurred, which was underneath I-526, was shut down while crews searched for the suspects.

Manigault, 21, has been charged with failure to stop for blue lights, reckless driving, driving under suspension, leaving the scene of a collision, six counts of failure to pay traffic tickets, and two counts of burglary second degree.

Vanderhorst, 26, has been charged with three counts of burglary second degree and attempted carjacking. Vanderhorst allegedly attempted to steal an occupied vehicle before he was captured.
